떡볶이Need:
- 떡 (rice cake)
- sugar and 고추장 (gochujang/hot pepper paste)
- 고추가루 (gochu garu/hot pepper powder)
- onions, 오뎅 (fish cake), scallions
Steps: 1. Leave the 떡 in water for about 30 minutes. Boil the water while waiting and when it’s boiling, put the 떡 in the pot. At the start, the 떡 should be at the bottom but as they cook, they’ll float to the top. 2. While the 떡 is cooking, put some oil in a pan and cook the onions, scallions, and fish cakes. 3. When the 떡 is done, combine it with the other things in the pan. In the pan, take some of the water from the pot you used to cook the 떡 and fill the pan until it’s about the same level as the 떡. 4. Put in about 2 spoonfuls of 고추장 and about two spoonfuls of sugar. Put in about a spoonful of 고추가루. Careful. The 가루 will make it really spicy. Stir the contents of the pot slowly, so nothing overflows and so the 떡 doesn’t burn. 5. The water will slowly start to thicken and the 떡 will start to absorb the flavor. Try a little bit and add more sugar/고추가루 as you needed. 6. ENJOY.
